Social Confusion Or Solution? Part I
  Posted: 2009-04-09 12:51:07.0
Summary:
Okay so let’s get to the point: I’ve had access to a computer since I was 3 years old, I have grown up with a keyboard in front of me for at least 25 - 50% of my day (if not more), and my childhood battles with my sibling consisted of whose turn it was to go on the internet next. I live, breathe and have needed a computer and the internet to make my way through life. If you haven’t guess yet, I am a GEN-Y. More importantly though, I have been led to social confusion through social networking and now I am taking down the rest of the world with me… or am I?  It all started in Grade 6 when ICQ was the reason why I ran home from school at 50km an hour. It was the battle to see who could get to the computer first. I had given up the outdoor playground and the single conversation telephone, and decided that the only way to communicate with all of my friends was to sit in front of a computer social networking (keep in mind I had just spent a whole day of school with them!). Looking back now, I can just imagine what my parents thought, as they watched their daughter stare at the computer screen, typing 300 words a minute an...

Social Confusion Or Solution? Part II
  Posted: 2009-04-09 12:52:31.0
Summary:
If you missed my previous article (Social Confusion I) than you may not realize what all the confusion with social networking was about. To sum things up, I’m a Gen-Y and my childhood consisted of living and breathing the internet and social networking. While most of the people in my life thought it was completely unnecessary to be social networking, I was also finally convinced the same… until I started my first real job in marketing. Here’s what made me realize that social networking would be a demand in my life!  Remember when I was in grade 6 and I would race home to talk to everyone I had just seen, rather than meeting at the playground or calling them up on the phone? I could now do the same thing at work and reach hundreds even thousands of potential clients all from the simple touch of a keyboard and social networking. We no longer had to place ads in the local paper and wait for people to show up (to the playground), and we no longer had to spend hours making phone call after phone call getting in touch with potential clients (with single conversation limits). We could virtually meet anyone, anywhere through social networking. We could have multiple conversations at once or just up...

Are Social Networks Taking Over The World?
  Posted: 2009-04-09 12:53:14.0
Summary:
With people rushing home to jump on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube and other social networks, I think we should be asking ourselves if it’s starting to take over the world. I know many people that spend more time on social networks than they do watching TV or do anything else, for that matter. In fact, social networks have become so popular, that people are even starting to pay employees to go on and social network for their company.    Call me crazy, but I think Social Networks are taking over and consuming our population. I know that I grew up with social networks, but I thought it was just something teens did to chat with their friends. I never expecte...

Summary:
You must be familiar with the term “six degrees of separation”? If not, it basically means that if you are in reach of a group of people, and they are in reach of a different group of people, than you are 6 “reaches” away from the whole world. Succeeding On Purpose
  Posted: 2009-05-14 12:41:18.0
Summary:
My bosses believe that you can succeed on purpose. At first I thought they were crazy! Then, they decided they were going to develop this template that would show us how. As I started reading to get more information, I kind of saw what they were talking about, but didn’t really get how it would all fit together. I knew they had a template that would work hand in hand with what they were teaching but it still didn’t make sense. Still being curious, with a belief that they could in fact prove me wrong, I decided to take the full lesson and template together and learn more.It was about a week later when our bosses told everyone they thought it would be in their best interest to take the course and template and figure out what they were looking for in the company to be successful. I couldn’t believe what happen...

Motivation For Working At Home
  Posted: 2009-09-02 11:18:33.0
Summary:
So you decided to work from home; maybe it is just a once in a while thing or you’ve decided to make it permanent. Either way you may find it hard to keep yourself motivated and on task, so I have put together some guidelines to help you make it through the day and still have a little fun. 1. Prep TimeWake up and start your day as if you are going into the office to work. Dressing up will make you feel good all day long. If you stay in your pajamas you will feel like relaxing and lounging around. Wearing appropriate office attire can raise your productivity. Dressing the part will help you get in the role. 2. Set Your HoursTell yourself you are going to work 8 hours today and that is it. Make sure you schedule in a break or two. If you would rather finish a project and then break, go for it. This will feel like a reward and help you renew yourself before you start your next task. If the dirty dishes in the kitchen sink are bothering you, do them on your break. Not only will you like the change, you will feel like you are accomplishing things at work and at home. 3. Make Sweet MusicAt ...

Think Marketing. Think Keywords.
  Posted: 2009-09-15 14:11:51.0
Summary:
When someone wants to target you, which word would they use to find you? The yellow pages sort you by service, the white pages sort you by name, but what happens when you take your service onto the internet and want people to find you? Going online with your marketing seems simple. I’ll have someone build a website, I’ll tell some of my clients the URL – perhaps even add it to my business card, attach it with a few emails… and VOILA, everyone can find me.  WRONG! Think of how many people are on the internet offering the exact same thing you are, think of how many people have a business name similar to yours. How does someone find you amongst them all? They do it through keywords that you have specifically targeted at them. When you want to find something on the internet, what do you do? Go to Google, put in your problem and choose the first result that appeals to you, right? Now it’s your turn to do the same. The first thing you need to do is find out what keywords your potential clients would be searching for, than you need to make your keywords more specific.  For example, if you were s...

Making the Decision That Too Much Work Is Too Much – And It’s Time to Hire
  Posted: 2009-11-11 08:40:52.0
Summary:
There comes a time as a coach or consultant, when you must fess up that your plate is too full and it is time to get help. But, you also know as a coach or consultant, that your busy peaks can quickly be followed by slow moments of rest. So, with such false pretenses, when exactly should you consider hiring some help?First, let’s figure out why your workload isn’t being balanced. One of the first reasons may be because your service has peak seasons. For example, if you were a corporate coach who trains on team building, self-development, and other areas – you may not be receiving much business through the summer or winter holiday season. Why? Because, a corporation isn’t going to pay for team coaching, if most of the team is out on holidays. The problem with this is, your “on seasons” are probably leaving you feeling run off your feet, but you still don’t know if you need that extra help or not. ...

Writing a Proposal – The ‘Write’ Way
  Posted: 2009-12-10 09:04:37.0
Summary:
As a coach or consultant, our service is the product that we perform, and we need to write a proposal around it that sells. At some point, your client will be asking you for a proposal, and if they aren’t, you’ll be writing one up to show them what you have to offer.Writing a proposal doesn’t have to be hard – start by writing around the goal you wish to achieve with the client. Sometimes, you may need to write the proposal to persuade your clients to take action – whether that means getting them to finally decide what they want done and the price they’d like to spend. This means you may have to determine what your clients needs are, establish a resolution and write up a document that supports this information with a goal. When writing your proposal, you want to make sure it is more in-depth than a resume and it&rsqu...
